Background
The hard part of a community product is not the feature list, it is consistency: members are spread across time zones and languages, the same post has to be current on both phone and web, and the interface has to follow the user's language — otherwise the sense of a live community disappears.
What we did
- Implemented posting, browsing and responding to prayer requests as the core interaction
- Synced content and interaction state across devices in real time so switching devices keeps context
- Made the interface multilingual for members in different language environments
- Organised content by time and by the connections a member follows, so new posts get seen
